Does Simples submit my declaration for me?
No. Simples prepares the file and guide. You stay in control — you review the Portal result and click the final submit button yourself.
Is Simples a replacement for an accountant?
No. Simples is a tax-filing tool, not an accountant. For most expats with foreign income, investments, NHR, and Portuguese salary, it's everything you need. If your year includes things like joint filing, dependents, rental income, or self-employment, Simples tells you upfront and points you to one.
What does "ready to file" actually mean?
For launch, it means you start from the Portal pre-filled declaration, Simples fills the missing supported annexes, and you re-upload the updated file. The portal is always the final source of truth.
How does Simples handle my Portuguese salary?
It doesn't ask you to retype it. Portuguese salary, withholding, Social Security, rent deductions, and many other values should come from the tax authority's pre-filled data. Simples focuses on the parts that are missing or need routing.
What about NHR or the new IFICI regime?
Simples handles both, including the foreign-income tax method choices that come with them. Regime-specific values and high-value-activity classifications are flagged for your review — those are the fields worth double-checking in the portal.
Do you store my tax portal password?
No. We never ask for it. Simples runs the intake and produces your declaration; you log into the portal yourself, in your own browser, and stay logged in there for review and submission.
What if my situation isn't covered?
The free intake tells you so before payment. Most expats fit — if you don't, we'll either put you on a profile-specific waitlist or point you to a qualified accountant who handles your case type.
